This panel features student leaders discussing best practices and lessons learned from their experiences increasing youth voter turnout on their campuses. From one on one conversations with peers, to embedding voter registration into the structure of student experience through creative programming, come learn how to run a successful effort on your own campus, and increase youth turnout this election cycle.

 

Race to the Polls: Discussion on Structural Racism in Voting

Racism permeates every part of our society and the democratic process and voting is no exception. It’s important to name how racism shows up as voter suppression and what we should do to continue dismantle discriminatory practices and systems. Experts will share their insights, experiences and recommendations of what’s at stake, what voter suppression in California looks like, and what we should do to continue to get the vote out in 2020.

This team-wide strategic game that takes the guesswork out of on-campus democratic engagement. tasks participants with creating a comprehensive action plan while keeping in mind their institution’s voting rates, their resources, and the unique challenges faced by student voters. Attendees will break up by campus and develop their own unique campus action plans!

In this session, we will share best practices in adapting and creating a campus civic engagement plan to an online setting, highlighting virtual best practices for voter registration, voter mobilization, and voter education.

Voter 101: Getting 2020 #VoteReady

Voting can be a confusing process even when you don't have a pandemic to worry about. This session, hosted by the California Secretary of State's Office, will do a deep dive on everything you need to know to confidently vote this fall: from learning the A to Z's of updating your voter registration, voting by mail, and things to look out for if you decide to vote in person. Come to this session to learn everything you need to know to create your vote plan, and arm yourself with the knowledge to help your community vote this fall, too!
